Problems with Windows Live messenger when in inline mode.

Synopsis

CensorNet is configured using INLINE mode but MSN Messenger fails to authenticate and login.

Article

The MSN sign-in process uses HTTPS to login.live.com, and so CensorNet intercepts the connections and re-signs the certificate, as the request is using SSL and CensorNet is in INLINE mode.

For MSN to work, you have to make sure the CensorNet root CA is installed in to the Windows "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities" certificate store. To do this point the Internet Explorer browser at:

http://ip.of.censornet/censornet/get_ca_cert.php

Install the certificate into the "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities" store. DO NOT "Let windows choose the store automatically" as this will not work for MSN.

If you are still having problems, please refer to Allow access to instant messenging software and webmail sites (such as MSN Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Hotmail, Yahoo).
