Synopsis

This article describes what to do if you are having trouble obtaining Windows Updates after installing the CensorNet on your network.

Article

It has been found that there are a number of issues to getting Windows Update to work if you're configured to use CensorNet version 4. These are largely due to raters kicking in for the main page, and the use of various file types that are commonly blocked.

The easiest way to prevent all blocks from stopping you updating your Windows machines is to add the follwing URLs to a Custom URL category and ensuring that category is set to Allow in your policies.

*update.microsoft.com
update.microsoft.com:443
windowsupdate.com*
download.windowsupdate.com

Note: You have to add both of the first two entries. The first ensures the main site won't trigger any blocks. The second permits access to the HTTPS portion of the site. (Remember, all HTTPS is blocked by default.)
